Dear Bob, As I reflect upon the courses I have taken with you over the past two year (Beginner, Advanced, Studio Lighting, Wedding & Private Lessons) I am prompted to write to you both to express my sincerest appreciation. It is great to see two people still so passionate about something after such a long time in the business. I am so glad that you have chosen to share that passion with others. Bob, you really are a technical and photo-editing wizard and Colleen gives dedicated insight to the creation of her photographs every step of the way. You offer the practical tools and support for people to find the confidence and knowledge necessary to take the most amazing photographs! I am appreciative of both the technical and motivational support I received from both of you and it has definitely contributed to the success I’ve achieved since opening my studio. Your direction has altered the way I take my pictures in such a positive way! I look forward to putting all that I have learned into action throughout my career! I found your courses and explanations much more understandable than those given in the books/articles I have read on the subject. I also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere during the courses and personal attention to my “problem areas” during our private lessons. My confidence and skill level has vastly increased with the wealth of knowledge and experience you have both provided me with! It is absolutely true to say that after attending your courses I see things in a very different way and see opportunities for great photography where previously I may have ignored. Thank you for reigniting my appetite to take great pictures. I'd always dragged my camera everywhere I went, was the go-to photog for the family and loved messing around with editing, but I was a slave to automatic settings and wanted to know more about my DSLR's capabilities. I didn't know it then, but my GREAT shots, were mostly flukes. In my short few weeks attending Bob's workshop, I was forced out of my comfort zone. I loved that there were weekly assignments - I had to get out there and try things...gulp...off automatic. During the workshops, I'd ask a question, Bob would chuckle and say "read your manual" and then proceed to explain it in a way that I could understand. (If you're like me, your camera manual is tucked nicely away in it's original plastic, full of intimidating mumbo jumbo.) Having an experienced photographer like Bob critique my photos was awesome. I could use the advice right away and it helped develop my own eye. But the biggest thing Bob's workshop did for me was give me the confidence to build a portfolio and start a photography business of my own. I haven't shot on automatic in almost two years now. Taking the Beginners’ Photography course finally got me out of Auto Mode. The first night of class, I admit I was lost, but with the notes passed out to read at home, fun homework assignments and helpful critiques, I enjoyed the course very much and have lost any fears of adjusting settings to try something new. Bob is very knowledgeable in all areas of Photography. Many people are...but what sets Bob apart is the ability to impart this knowledge in a systematic, effective and progressive way. I didn't realize how much I love photography until I took the introductory course from Bob Federer. Through this course I increased my skill in using my camera and knowledge of composition. The information was delivered at a good pace and technical aspects were well explained. In particular, I enjoyed the way in which the course was structured to apply what we learned. With weekly homework submissions and feedback, both individually and as a group, I had many opportunities for learning.
